Simple Things
Posted on March 1, 2012
A lot of times when you are a photographer you get caught up on striving for perfection. You always want the perfect light, the perfect expression, the perfect picture. Because of this need for perfection, we as photographers, sometimes forget to take shots of the every day. To help us remember these important shots of real life, a group of photographers that I am involved with have decided to start a little blog series called “The Simple Things.” Each month we will shoot one of those simple moments in our lives that we have been neglecting with our cameras. At the end of the month we will make a blog post and share our stories. At the bottom of the post we will share a link to another photographer in the group so you can read her story.
I was going to focus on one “simple thing” for my February post, but then I realized that for me, February is all about simple things.
There isn’t usually much going on in February. My husband is crazy busy with his coaching. My kids are finishing up with their swim team activities. There are many lazy evenings doing not much of anything except hanging by the wood stove. And spring is still quite a few weeks away. I often get a bit antsy during this time of year, looking forward to warmer weather, being outside more, VACATIONS!
But when I take the time to look within my little world, I can see how many wonderfully simple things I have. And if you add up all those simple things you end with one pretty amazing bunch of STUFF.
There are cold, snowy weekends outdoors!
And afternoons baking [amazing] chocolatey peanut buttery cupcakes!
And even MORE lazy days by the wood stove!
And some days that we all are a bit stir crazy!
There are FREE days at the zoo!
But sometimes just a simple and quiet snowy morning at the lake can feed your soul a bit..
Yup, these simple things can be pretty amazing things.
Thanks so much for stopping by!!!! Now I invite you to visit Nikki and view her February post!
Until next time! XOXO!!!
A photo a day – Day #8

I just love this photo – my little munchkin, posing for my Day #8 “Photo of the Day” project!

Color and Light

I have been spending some time on Pinterest lately…..yes, yet another website to suck more time out of my day! But I love it. It is a way to collect photos of everything and anything you like, you find inspirational, you want to remember, or just what you would love to have.
I love using the site for photographical inspiration. Not only do I “pin” photos of favorite poses, but I love “pining” favorite colors and color combinations. Or just a photo with beautiful lighting. It is just a great way to get inspired, share inspiration, and just, waste some time.
A few days ago I started yet another photography project – A Photo A Day! I am only on day 3, but I am really excited about this. I completed a successful Project 365 in 2009. And I started one (and abandoned it) in 2010.
I really want to use this project to not just get a photo day, but to look for beautiful colors and beautiful lighting.
And a couple photos from my project so far. First, my eldest with some beautiful side lighting. I love the catchlights, the shadows and the soft light accentuating her chin line.
And as the sun peaked out late last evening, I just loved the beautiful palette of warm neutrals of the weed against the sunset.
I’d love to say I am making this entire project a study of color and light, but that seems a bit daunting right now. Just getting a photo a day is sometimes hard. But I will definitely will try look for colors and light as much as possible.
